Why would Apple do what has failed all other manufactures during the time Apple's one model mantra have eaten sales from other manufactures?
Because now Android with a range of sizes is eating iPhone sales.
Go into a Best Buy and look at all the Androids with larger screens, and some with smaller screens and lower prices. Apple needs to compete with that...

Well, this is pretty cool.
Is there going to be some downside to this, like a fee or (worse) ads? (Much worse, if the ads can't be skipped or easily ignored.)
I think the integration could be used as enticement for customers to use a particular airline over another. It doesn't matter if everyone eventually adopts the technology, as you've built up a reputation and some customers.
Ads or a fee aren't needed as your attracting more revenue, ads and additional fees would be more likely to push people away.
Sounds great to me! Did anyone here anything about Zune intergration in planes? I didn't think so. :p
I'm sure Microsoft could pay the airlines enough to install it at no cost just to push their brand.

Insert InvisiText Disclaimer that I know 10.4.10 does not equal 10.5.0 here.

So as we all know we'll get the A5 chip but don't know what clock speeds, we will get a design much like the iPhone 4 which IMO is fantastic news, a pretty much confirmed 8mpx camera unit from Sony which again is just fantastic news, so long as Apple have learnt to protect the lens a bit!!
And we are all expecting to have 64gb version and lets hope the 32gb takes the place and price point of the 16gb.
And now this brilliant news, and I am going to state I bet one of those developers is Gameloft and I bet it's developing it's Unreal Engine based game for it!!!! Black Ops running on the iPhone 5 and Unreal Engine anyone? Sounds truthful to me :)
I'm thinking the next iPhone will be a keeper for a few years, well 2 anyway haha.

Everyone is dressed up but Steve....awesome.
Not really. It's his trademark - after all, Steve Jobs is another product from Apple's marketing department.
I'm rather disappointed that Mark Zuckerberg did not appear in casual clothes as well. I would have expected more from him.

I think you're misinformed. The current models simply combined the 1/8" in and out jacks into one port (TRRS), just like the port on the iPhone. For example, you can plug your iPhone headphones into your Mac for use as a headset.
It also supports optical via mini-TOSlink: http://www.amazon.com/6ft-Toslink-Mini-Cable/dp/B000FMXKC8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302041837&sr=8-2
Thanks for the link since I've wanted one of these for my iMac for a while now since the audio inputs/outputs are hybrid now from what I understand.
The iMacs have (according to the Apple website):
"Headphone/optical digital audio output (minijack)
Audio line in/optical digital audio input (minijack)"

A child is a consequence, as a consequence of saving someone's life I was rewarded rather generously by the person ($1,000 to a 6th grader is a lot).
A consequence is a result or effect of an action or condition
And you had the choice to keep, throw away, or give away that "consequence".
The consequence of an action that leads to an unplanned pregnancy is pregnancy, which a woman can carry to term to raise or adopt out, or abort. Each of THESE actions carry it's own set of consequences.
The goal of sex education (provided by PP as well as others) is to minimize the need for unplanned pregnancy. Unfortunately, using the same "morality", many groups that oppose abortion oppose sex education, the most effective tool in minimizing the need for abortion. In focusing on abortion, let's not, um, throw out the baby with the bath water.

A talk in front of a few
We see the games both sides have played
We see them chatting and feel dismayed
There " Fued " was a diversion, just to create chatter
Apple & Google friends to the end

Yeah, Tom Tom is finally getting this right after all kinds of problems. Once a week (if you choose) you get prompted to download a 1 meg'ish patch. You can do it anywhere and it patches the existing stored maps, no live feed necessary. Takes about 5 seconds.
You do need live feed for traffic, but of course, that is the whole point of that.
BTW, their traffic is awesome now and the routing bugs are finally fixed. Also, their crowd sourced arrival times are the most accurate on any of the platforms and it consistently chooses the shortest route.
I was a Garmin lover and wanted it to desperately come to the iphone, but not with maps like this. Now that Tom Tom is finally getting it right, I won't be getting this.

When scrounging through old files on my mac, i stumbled across this strange movie. it is an advertisement for internship at apple, which i downloaded sometime last year.
Anyway, within this 1.21 min video, there is a few seconds which really stood out. it appears to show the mac os on login, with all the icons and windows falling into place. surely this has something to do with the testing, or development of quartz extreme!
ive placed a small movie showing exactly what im talking about on my mac.com home page
http://homepage.mac.com/joshwoods/iMovieTheater19.html
Anyone know what this could be? is it just a rendered movie, or is it the mac os in action?

They're just different, but I don't see how you can say Windows is more intuitive than OS X. Minimizing and closing apps? OS X Windows have the same 3 freakin' buttons (minimize, maximize, close), but they're on the top left corner instead of the top right corner. Also, keyboard shortcuts are in general more intuitive and uniform on the Mac. For example, command-Q will quit your program. Closing a window doesn't actually quit the program, maybe that's what you're referring to?
And as far as OS X being dumbed down. Hello? It's a Unix machine! I consider myself an alpha geek or close to it, and I have 10x more power on my Mac than on any Windows machine. It's Windows that's dumbed down. Everything's a black box. I can't even kill a program if it's hanging. I keep going to Task Manager and clicking "End Task" over and over and over and over and it just won't quit. What's up with that? On my iBook everything just works like it's supposed to to a much greater degree than on my PCs.
As Rower asked, what exactly were you trying to find on the Mac that made you think it was "dumbed down"? It might be in a different place. You're just very used to the Windows interface. That doesn't mean the Mac is "dumbed down".

That's pretty cool. Trust Sony to push the envelope like that.
Sony had a lot of innovative products in 2010 but they (for no discernible reason) decided to discontinue all three products (VAIO Z, X, P).
The P fits in my pocket, the X is insanely light and thin (and somehow managing to shoehorn internal Ethernet and VGA to something that's lighter/thinner/smaller than the Air) and the Z was simply astonishing. Non-LV i7 proc, GT330M graphics, 512GB SSD, Blu-ray and a Full HD 13.1" LED screen (covering 96% of Adobe's RGB colors!) in something that was the same weight as the last-gen 13" Air.
Why they discontinued them I'll never know. Glad I bought them while I could :)
Ignoring current situations and if I could have it any way I want:
Macbook Air 11.6''
- Intel I5 ULV, 6mb FSB
- Nvidia GeForce GTX 460M
- SD Card Slot
- Thunderbolt Port in ADDITION to 2 USB ports.
- Get rid of the bezel around the screen and either make the screen slightly larger or make it black edge similar to MBP.
I would just settle for the i5 and Nvidia chip. As for the collapsable ethernet port... moving parts? ew.
And somehow having to buy/carry around another bulky dongle, and using up another one of the USB ports, is better?
Not to mention that the internal Ethernet port could support up to Gigabit speeds while the extEthernet would only support up to 100Mbps (due to USB's limitation of 480mbps).
Yeah, all of the above limitations/annoyances sounds way better than having a collapsible Ethernet port
...and GTX460M in an Air? Yeah good luck with that. Do you want worse battery life and a melted casing or what?
Is this not a dream thread!
Fine 410m.
@ Retina display. I seriously doubt IGP 3000 is capable of even running OS X at this resolution let alone anything 3D based like a game.
You do realize that the 410M is a dedicated graphics chip? There is no space for a dedicated card on the Air's mobo.
Besides- the 410M performs slightly worse than the HD3000 and is thus worse than the current 320M. And thus, if you doubt the HD3000 can run OS X at a 'retina' resolution, good luck with the 410M. The only thing going for the 410 is the better NVIDIA drivers.
Not if you have this
See above.
I bet it will come in the next 2 years ;)
We'll see. I highly doubt it, but we'll see.
